The aim of EUGEO is to represent its members at the European level and to coordinate and initiate joint activities of the members to advance research and education on the Geography of Europe and to promote the discipline of Geography in Europe.

1 Provision of Service

1.1 The EUGEO website (“the Site”) is operated by the Royal Geographical Society (with the Institute of British Geographers) of 1 Kensington Gore, London, SW7 2AR, United Kingdom (‘we’, ‘us’, ‘our’). For our other contact details, please see our contacts page atwww.rgs.org. We agree to provide you with reasonable support by telephone or email during normal working hours for the purpose of assisting you to maintain your access to the Site.

2 Limited Rights to Use Content

2.1 All material displayed on the Site (“Content”) belongs to us orour licensors. Subject to clause 2.2, your Users may retrieve and display the Content on a computer screen, print individual pages on paper and store such pages in electronic form on disk and on your internal server (but not on any other server or other storage device connected to an external network unless we have agreed to do this) for your internal educational non-commercial purposes.

2.2 Most of the Content on the Site is owned by us but certain content is used under licence from third parties (“Third Party Content”) and will be marked with the copyright notice of those third parties. Some of the Third Party Content will be subject to additional restrictions – the relevant copyright notice will make it clear where that is the case. You are responsible for ensuring that your Users comply with such restrictions.

3 Participation

3.1 The opinions, advice and statements contained in messages posted on the Site (“Messages”) are those of the Users and not us. Copyright in any software that is made available for download for the participation in the Service (“Software”) belongs to us or its suppliers. Your use of the Software is governed by the terms of any licence agreement that may accompany or be included with the Software. Certain promotions on the Site may also be subject to particular terms which will be made available by hyperlink. You will be responsible for ensuring that Users comply with all such terms referred to in this clause 3.1.

4 Warranties

4.1 We will use our reasonable skill in making the website and its content available to you and in ensuring its continuing availability. However, because of the number of sources from which we obtain the Content and because of the nature of the Internet and computer software and hardware, errors and omissions do occur and we do not give any other warranties in respect of this. 7 General

7.1 If any provision of this Agreement is found to be invalid by any court having competent jurisdiction, the invalidity of that provision will not affect the validity of the remaining provisions of this Agreement, which shall remain in full force and effect.

7.2 Failure by either party to exercise any right or remedy under this Agreement does not constitute a waiver of that right or remedy.

7.3 A person who is not party to this Agreement shall have no right under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999 to enforce any of its terms.

7.4 This Agreement shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, English law. The parties irrevocably agree that the courts of England shall have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any dispute which may arise out of, under, or in connection with this Agreement or the legal relationship established by it, and for those purposes irrevocably submit all disputes to the jurisdiction of the English courts.

7.5 Headings in this Agreement are for convenience only and will have no legal meaning or effect.

Accessibility

The Society’s Inclusion & Diversity Advisory group, made up of representatives from different parts of the Society’s activities, meets twice a year. It reviews the inclusion and diversity elements of the Society’s activities and publications and reports to the Society’s Council.

Revision and update of EUGEO website

 

The EUGEO website (www.eugeo.org) is in the process of being updated and revised. Please consult this website for the latest information.

 

Registration for IGU International Geographical Congress till July 15.

 

Interest in IGU/IGC 2012 in Cologne is massive. Therefore, registration stops at July 15. There will be no opportunity to register on-site in Cologne.

Seminar on The State of Geography in Europe

All Geographical Societies in Europe, members and non-members of EUGEO, are invited to present the State of Geography in their countries. Please inform EUGEO (info@eugeo.org) when you want to present before August 10. These presentations will be followed by a discussion on how the societies can cooperate to strengthen their organization, serve their members and promote the Geography of Europe and Geography in Europe. This should result in a road map how to continue working on this theme in the coming years. The seminar is open to all persons that have registered for IGU/IGS 2012.

Revision and update of the EUGEO website

Important international Geography Conferences

Of the many relevant conferences organized every year, two international conferences always attract a lot of European geographers. These are:

 

The Annual International Conference of the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG)

The 2013 conference will be in London at the Royal Geographical Society, August 28-30. It is the largest meeting of geographers of this kind in Europe. The theme will be: New Geographical Frontiers. Look at the website: (http://www.rgs.org).

 

The Annual Meeting of the Association of American Geographers AAG

This meeting will take place in 2013 in Los Angeles, April 9-13. The presentations deal with Geography, Sustainability and GIScience. It is the largest gathering of geographers in the world with this year in New York 8500 delegates. Consult the website: (http://www.aag.org/cs/annualmeeting)
